A Child is MissingEvery 40 seconds a child is reported missing in the U.S. To help address this issue, the Oklahoma City Police Department utilizes a program called, A Child is Missing.A Child is Missing is activated by law enforcement only. When activated, the program places phone calls to residents and businesses in the immediate area of the disappearance. The program places as many as 1,000 phone calls in 60 seconds. The disappearance must meet certain criteria before the Oklahoma City Police Department will activate A Child is Missing. It can be activated when a missing person of any age is suffering from physical and/or mental handicaps that would render them unable to provide or care for themselves. The program can also be activated when an elderly person suffering from Alzheimer's or Dementia is missing.
