The Oklahoma City Police Athletic League is a charter member of the National Association of Police Athletic Leagues. The National Association of Police Athletic Leagues is recognized as the largest juvenile crime prevention program in the nation. PAL is dedicated to reducing crime by providing safe, healthy alternatives for children from high risk neighborhoods. PAL is available to all children who wish to participate. PAL is a non-profit organization that relies on the continued support of concerned individuals and businesses from the Oklahoma City Metro Area who believe in the PAL mission. The first program offered was boxing, which began with forty participants. Basketball was soon added. The boxing program was held in a building behind Northeast High School and basketball was facilitated at the Police Training Gymnasium. Both programs struggled financially. Today, PAL has evolved and grown since the beginning and now offers several athletic and educational programs to thousands of children every year. Currently PAL offers two soccer seasons: Spring and Fall. Basketball, softball, T-ball, baseball, and several Summer clinics. For 2007 the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League has had 3,319 children in our programs. The Fall soccer program is ongoing with 650 players in the league. Winter basketball enrollment is now open with the season beginning in December. If you are interested in being a volunteer or participating in the PAL program, call (405) 297-1137, or you can visit the PAL website. |
