Residents encouraged to recycle used electronics at eCycling drop-off May 5

(April 10, 2012) - Residents of Oklahoma City and neighboring communities can dispose of obsolete or broken electronics at an eCycling Drop-Off Event between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the State Fair Park.  No proof of residency is needed.

The free eCycling event makes disposing of electronics easy and convenient, and is sponsored by the City of Oklahoma City, Waste Management Recycle America and LG Electronics.

Residents may stay in their vehicles while crews collect acceptable electronic products from trunks or pickup beds.  Products not acceptable for eCycling will be left in vehicles.

The eCycling event offers an environmentally friendly option for disposing of old electronics.  They contain useful materials such as glass, plastic and metals that can be used in the manufacture of new products.  Recycling electronics minimizes the amount of hazardous waste in the landfills and the extraction of new raw materials from the earth.

“LG Electronics is taking a proactive approach to helping consumers responsibly dispose of end-of-life electronics by joining forces with the City and Waste Management to offer this free collection and recycling program to OKC residents,” said Timothy McGrady, Environmental Manager for LG Electronics USA.  “We encourage consumers to take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally responsible manner. Life’s good when it’s green,” he said.
