(July 26, 2011) - Oklahoma City’s eight ward boundaries
are being redrawn. The changes are a result of redistricting, which
is required every decade following the census to
rebalance the population in each ward.
Residents are invited to review and provide input on the
proposed ward map
during a public meeting at 6 p.m. on August 9 in the City Council
Chamber on the third floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker.
“We worked hard to keep individual neighborhoods in the same ward and
make as few changes as possible,” said redistricting coordinator Jane
Abraham. “Council members will take the public’s input into consideration
before approving the final plan.”
The new boundaries are slated for final hearing on August 30 and are
expected to take effect September 30.
Redistricting is a requirement of both federal law and the City Charter.
