Northwest Classen High School to host MAPS for Kids meeting

(October 28, 2009) - Northwest Classen High School will host the third of four MAPS for Kids community meetings at 6 p.m. on November 3.  The meeting will take place in the school’s cafeteria, 2801 NW 27th Street in Oklahoma City.

During the meeting, parents, teachers, students, neighbors, community members and school administrators are invited to share their ideas for the school’s upcoming renovation.

The school, which was built in 1955, will receive over $12.9 million in facility improvements from MAPS for Kids funds. The school will be designed to accommodate 1219 ninth through twelfth grade students.

Four community meetings will be held for Northwest Classen High School before construction begins.  The four meetings cover:

Meeting 1 – planning and programming
Meeting 2 - schematic design presentations
Meeting 3 - preliminary design presentations
Meeting 4 - final design review

Funding for the nearly $700 million MAPS for Kids program comes from two voter-approved sources: a seven-year penny sales tax which ended on Dec. 31, 2008 and an Oklahoma City Public Schools bond issue. Once completed, every student in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district will attend a new or fully renovated school.

Those needing a sign language interpreter, language interpreter or disability assistance can call 297-2578 at least 48 hours before the meeting.

The meeting is being coordinated by Crafton Tull Sparks and the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Public Schools (OCMAPS) Trust Project Office. For more information, contact the OCMAPS Trust Project Office at 297-3461 or visit www.okc.gov.
