(October 21, 2009) - The City’s General Services Department received the Central Oklahoma Clean Cities’ 2009 Zach D. Taylor, Jr. Vision Award yesterday for Regional Alternative Transportation Fuels Leadership.
The award recognizes public entities that are committed to reducing fuel usage and maintaining air quality attainment status in Central Oklahoma.
The General Services department maintains the City’s general fleet and has more dedicated natural gas vehicles in Central Oklahoma than any other public sector entity. In 2008, General Services had 57 dedicated compressed natural gas vehicles in service and two onsite refueling locations for its CNG vehicles in downtown Oklahoma City and at the Central Maintenance Facility. In 2009, the department received a Public Fleet Conversion Grant to add five more CNG vehicles to the fleet.
The award was named for the Association of Central Oklahoma Government (ACOG)’s late Executive Director, Zach D. Taylor. Taylor was a recognized and admired civic leader in Central Oklahoma and it was through his vision that the Central Oklahoma Clean Cities program and coalition was established in 1995, the country’s first regional Clean Cities program.
