(July 21, 2009) - Creating beautiful and low-maintenance landscapes for
public spaces can be simple when armed with the right know-how.
Citizens who want to learn how to create effective public landscapes
are invited to attend “Public Landscaping,” a FREE horticulture workshop at
the Will Rogers Garden Exhibition Center, 3400 NW 36 on Friday, August 7, at
9:30 a.m.
Naturalists with the Will Rogers Gardens will teach participants how to select the right plant materials for public spaces, including parks, rights-of-way, medians and similar public projects. The class is designed with volunteer groups in mind, and the focus is creating colorful, easy-to-maintain spaces that require little work.
“This is the perfect class for neighborhood, church or other community groups,” said Louis Scott, Will Rogers Park naturalist. “Considerations for public landscaping are vastly different from those of private residences or businesses. We want to show people that with a solid plan and a few easy steps, they can create public landscapes that are not only beautiful, but nearly maintenance-free.”
Space is limited and registration is required by calling 943-0827.
“Public Landscaping” is one in a series of annual workshops presented free to the public by the Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation Department. For more information, call 943-0827 or visit www.okc.gov/parks/.
