(July 10, 2009) -
Citizens and volunteers who want to learn how to create and maintain
effective public landscapes are invited to attend a FREE workshop at the
Will Rogers Garden Exhibition Center, 3400 NW 36th Street on
Friday, July 17 at 9:30 a.m.
“Public Landscaping”
will teach participants how to select the right plant materials for public
spaces, including parks, rights-of-way, medians and similar public projects.
The class is designed with volunteers in mind, and the focus is
creating colorful, easy-to-maintain spaces that require little work.
“This is the perfect class for
neighborhood, church or other community groups,” said Louis Scott, Will
Rogers Park naturalist. “Considerations for public landscaping are vastly
different from those of private residences or businesses. We want to show
people that with a solid plan and a few easy steps, they can create public
landscapes that are not only beautiful, but nearly maintenance-free.”
A repeat of the class
will be held on August 7 for those unable to attend the July 17 workshop.
Space is limited and
registration is required by calling 943-0827.
“Public Landscaping” is one in a
series of annual workshops presented free to the public by the Oklahoma City
Parks & Recreation Department.
