(June 1, 2009) - Local gardening
enthusiasts will celebrate the bounty of summer with the 18th
Annual “Garden Festival in the Park,” on Saturday, June 13 from 9:30 a.m. to
4 p.m. at Will Rogers Park, 3400 NW 36th Street.
The festival, hosted by the Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs,
will feature a plant and garden sale, gardening seminars, an herb and flower
show, kids’ activities, the Late Bloomers Café and more.
The show is being held in celebration of National Garden Week.
The festival is FREE and open to the public.
This year’s seminars include:
10 a.m.
“Plants Native to Oklahoma”
11 a.m.
“What’s Killing Our Trees?” – Oak, Elm, Maple
1 p.m.
“Attracting Butterflies”
2 p.m.
“New Plants on the Market”
In addition to the
seminars, staff naturalists will conduct free hourly tours of the Will
Rogers Horticulture Gardens throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m.
According to Will
Rogers Park naturalist Louis Scott, the festival has something for everyone.
“Even if you don’t have a green thumb,” says Scott, “there are plenty
of garden ornaments and craft booths throughout the event.
More importantly, the seminars will provide a great learning
opportunity for gardeners of all levels and abilities.”
Will Rogers Park is
located on the south side of NW 36th Street, between Portland
Avenue and the I-44 frontage road.
