Work to begin on turnaround at N Penn and Memorial; 1/21

(January 4, 2008) - Construction of a turnaround beneath the John Kilpatrick Turnpike at N Pennsylvania Avenue and W Memorial Road will begin the week of January 21, weather permitting.

The new turnaround will substantially improve traffic flow at the intersection by allowing vehicles along Memorial Road to move from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes without waiting through two cycles of left turn signals.

One lane adjacent to the construction on southbound Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed for approximately eight months.  Lane closures on Memorial Road will be necessary at various stages of the project. 

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes to destinations in the vicinity.

Construction should be completed by fall 2008.  Haskell Lemon Construction Company was awarded the $958,203.50 project on December 18, 2007.
