(January 17, 2008) - Bulk waste crews continue to run their big trash routes but are leaving storm debris collection up to City contractors hired specifically to gather branches and limbs set along curbsides.
To assist with efforts, residents are asked to keep their bulk waste separate from storm debris.
“Bulk waste crews could never keep up with their regular big trash pick up schedule if we also had to collect the incredible amount of storm debris that’s out there,” said Solid Waste Manager Jim Linn.
Debris removal contractors have collected more than 37,000 tons of storm debris so far.
The huge piles of storm debris covering the curbsides may have hidden water meters causing some January billings to be estimated. When getting ready for the second round of debriscollectionor setting out bulk waste, residents are asked to leave their meters debris free.
Contractors are expected to finish with their first pass through Oklahoma City by January 31. When the second round begins in February, branches and limbs should be set within 10 feet of the curb.
