Annual Orchids in October Celebration Blooms at Myriad Botanical Gardens

(September 20, 2006) –– Exotic orchids in all shapes, sizes and colors take center stage during Orchids in October, a fall celebration at the Myriad Botanical Gardens.

The annual three-day Orchids in October celebration includes an orchid sale, a free admission day into the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory and a ticketed luncheon to honor the recipient of this year’s Crystal Orchid Award.

The ever-popular orchid sale will feature a variety of the striking blooms.  “The sale will offer the standard varieties, oncidiums, phalaenopsis and dendrobiums, as well as some unique species,” said Janet Latham, horticulturalist at the Gardens.

The plant sale, October 5 – 7, will cater to both beginning and advanced orchid growers.  Beginning growers are encouraged to start with Phalaenoposis, Dendrobiums or Oncidiums.  More experienced collectors may be interested in Brassia, Vanda and Miltonias.

Horticulturalists and orchid enthusiasts will be on-hand to answer any questions and help with selections.

Free admission into the Crystal Bridge will be offered October 6 as part of the Orchids in October celebration.  Inside the Crystal Bridge, guests can marvel at the hundreds of blooms dotting the landscape.
