Members of 2006-2007 Youth Council announced

(August 18, 2006) – Eighteen students have been chosen as members of the 2006-2007 Youth Council of Oklahoma City, cosponsored by the Youth Leadership Exchange of Leadership Oklahoma City.

The at-large students will shadow the Mayor as he performs his duties, while members from each of the eight wards will work with their respective Council representatives.

“I am excited about the Youth Council Program; it is a dream come true. This year's Youth Council members follow the tradition of bright young people that give us as elected officials assurance that our legacy of hard work will be carried on,” said Ward 7 Councilwoman Willa Johnson, who, along with Ward 5 Councilman Jerry Foshee, was instrumental in creating the program.

To fulfill their responsibilities as Councilors, members engage in structured learning activities, observe various City activities, and attend City events. Youth Councilors participate in neighborhood meetings and other gatherings to solicit and/or give input from community youth on City issues.
