(May 15, 2006) – Four students from Wilson Arts Integration School are the winners of the City of Oklahoma City’s Design the Van poster contest.
Alaina Poole, Singanice Archer, Erin Melton and McKenzie Webster will be recognized at an award ceremony on Friday, May 19 at Wilson School, 2215 N. Walker.
The theme of this year’s contest was “Use That Bin, OKC!” Students used the theme, along with the “chasing arrows” recycle symbol, in their colorful posters. Replicas of the winning posters will be featured on the City van that is used to raise awareness about the City’s curbside recycling and neighborhood enhancement programs. The van will be on display at the school on Friday.
Curbside recycling is available to Oklahoma City’s urban utilities customers. Paper, tin, plastics #1 and #2, aluminum and glass can be recycled using the City’s “Little Blue” recycling bin. Call Utilities Customer Service at 297-2833 for more information or to order a Little Blue.
The City’s Solid Waste Management Division sponsors Saturday Morning Sweeps. The neighborhood clean-up events are available on Saturdays from April 1 to September 30. The City will provide trash bags and a container and will pay disposal fees for the collected trash. Neighborhood associations must provide volunteers to conduct the clean up. Call Ben Davis at 749-3092 to schedule a sweep or get more information about the program.
