(October 15, 2004) – The intersection of NW 10 Street & Walker Avenue in MidTown will be closed on Monday, October 18 for construction of a traffic roundabout that is part of the NW 10 beautification project.
Construction will be completed by Tuesday, December 21.
The roundabout will allow traffic to flow more smoothly through the intersection, which also includes Classen Drive extending to the northwest. The unusual five-legged layout of the intersection contributed to making it the most accident-prone intersection along the whole length of Walker Avenue.
Roundabouts are different from traffic circles in that they are smaller, include pedestrian safety features, and reduce the speed of traffic going through the intersection.
Detour routes, shown in orange on the map, will be well-marked during construction. Access to area businesses, including St. Anthony Hospital, will be maintained.

The roundabout is funded by revenue from the General Obligation Bond package approved by voters on December 12, 2000.
