Funding

The City, State and Federal governments jointly funded the monument’s first phase.

A Federal grant of $1.7 million was awarded to the Centennial Commission in 2002 and State funds were appropriated in 2005 and 2007. The City is annually appropriating funds to provide its share of the project.

The City also provided the site. Site improvements include a road, parking lot, lighting, trails and the landscaping work. The site work cost roughly $1 million, of which $300,000 was funded through a Federal grant.
