Competitive Bidding
Finance
We use competitive bidding for one-time purchases and yearly contracts. Bids for most of our annual contracts are advertised during the months of February – May. Bids for one-time purchases are advertised periodically throughout the year.
Monitoring Bids
We have three ways you can find out which items are out for bid:
Journal Record newspaper. Items for bid are published in the Journal Record, under Public Notices, the day after City Council approval, usually the Wednesday edition.
City Clerk. A list of bid items is available at no charge from the City Clerk's office. The list is updated every Wednesday afternoon. If you provide stamped, self-addressed envelopes, the Clerk's office will mail the list to you. (You can drop off up to 12 envelopes at a time.)
Bidders' hotline, 297-BIDS. This 24-hour recorded message lists items to be bid during the next two weeks. The message is updated every Wednesday.
We actively seek qualified vendors to compete for the City's business. We encourage you to call the appropriate buyer for more information about doing business with the City.
If you decide to submit a bid, you will need a bid packet. Call us (297-2741) with the name and bid number of the item you want to bid on; we will mail you a bid packet. Or, if you prefer, you can pick one up at the Purchasing Office.

Construction bids, including Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) are handled by the Public Works Department. You can monitor construction bids by checking the City Clerk's bid list or the City Council agenda. For more information on construction bids, call (405) 297-2581.
Construction bid packets are available from the City Clerk's Office. A fee is required for construction bid packets because of the amount of material (blue prints, specs, etc.) involved.
Because our buyers do so much business by phone, you may get a voice mail recording when you call. You can expect a return call within one business day. If you include enough information in your message, we can leave information on your anwering machine in case you're out.
