The current zoning ordinance was adopted by City Council on November 28, 2007 and became effective on December 27, 2007.
The Zoning Ordinance was re-written in 2007 to make the ordinance more user-friendly for the public and for the different professionals that rely on the regulations to conduct their business activities. The ordinance is organized with a table of contents and 15 individual articles with an appendix at the end.
Updated regulations for new subdivisions were approved by the Planning Commission and became effective February 18, 2005.
The 2005 changes brought the rules up to date with development trends over the previous 25 years. They were drafted with input from developers, homebuilders, attorneys and other interested citizens.

A section of the subdivision regulations were reserved to allow for Traditional Neighborhood standards to be included at the time of development of a new Traditional Neighborhood district with the pending zoning ordinance amendment.
