The Development Center provides for the effective implementation and maintenance of ordinances and policies related to land use codes and building regulations. The division is responsible for providing the following services:
 

Review of all building plans for compliance with relevant codes and ordinances. Collection of fees and issuance of permits for all construction related activity; Inspection of all structures for safety and code compliance; and Enforcement of Building Code Requirements.
 

The City of Oklahoma City - Development Services Department - Development Center is located on the 8th floor of the 420 W. Main St. building. Street Parking is available with surrounding parking garages close by.

BUILDING PERMITS IN OKC

     Every city in America requires permits and inspections before certain property changes and uses can go forward — whether it’s demolishing an old building or constructing a new one. We all depend on local government to regulate these activities to protect us from property-related disasters. Flooded basements or fire from electrical shorts are examples, as well as building collapses due to structural failure.

     We work hard to cut red tape and make this process as easy and hassle-free as we can without compromising the integrity of building and zoning codes.  Everything starts at Plan Review. Professional staff carefully review your project plans so your permit can be issued on time and you can begin your project.

     This website explains the plan review process and gives property owners or representatives tips and guidelines to speed the plan review process along.  REMEMBER — even though the codes and ordinances adopted by the City are the minimum standard required for basic building safety, they are still complex when applied to different building types and uses. You can be assured, however, that we will be objective, fair and consistent in applying these codes to your project.

     Residential permits include 1 and 2 Family Dwelling and their accessory structures, while Commercial permits include all other residential structures as well as commercial and industrial structures.

  • National Electrical Code, 2008

  • International Plumbing Code, 2000

  • International Mechanical Code, 1996

  • Associated Supplements to Each Code.
