Councilman Marrs is happy to start another term as Ward 1 Councilman for The City of Oklahoma City.
Councilman Bowman asked staff to draft an ordinance for Council consideration requiring installation of backflow valves on homes that are replacing sewer lines, in order to avoid sewage backups.
Councilman Bowman thanked City Manager James Couch for the Animal Welfare report, stating it was very helpful. In addition to the report, Councilman Bowman asked for statistics regarding response to high priority animal welfare calls.
Councilman Bowman announced the Cleveland and Edgemere neighborhood associations would be meeting tonight in Ward 2. Both associations will be discussing lighting in their neighborhoods and project fundraising.
Councilman McAtee attended the dedication for Reaching Our City medical clinic on NW 10th Street. The clinic offers free medical services to residents in that area. This is a tremendous step toward assisting families with no medical insurance.
On Saturday, Councilman McAtee attended a ceremony for McKinley Properties’ Potomac Apartments, SW 59th Street and South May. It is the first apartment building dedicated toward crime free multi-family housing. He expressed his gratitude toward Chief Citty, Major Allen, Sergeant Clous and Lieutenant Freeman for their support in moving this initiative forward. He encouraged other apartment complexes to pursue crime free multi-housing, so residents can live in safety with a high quality of life.
Last night, Councilman McAtee attended the Corbin Park Neighborhood Association meeting. He congratulated Zenoba Johnson for her efforts.
Councilman McAtee announced the National Street Rod Car Show would be this weekend. The City will be preparing a press release calling on residents and visitors to abide by City laws, ensuring a wholesome good time for all. The City will not tolerate any indecent or illegal activities. He encouraged residents to enjoy the street rods while they are here, attend official street rod functions, but avoid any activities that might cause problems.
Councilman White is happy to start another term as Ward 4 Councilman for The City of Oklahoma City.
Councilwoman Simank announced Emergency Medical Services Authority would be unveiling the new ambulance design at 11:30 a.m., today. The new ambulances will be arriving at the end of April and will have a “bold” new look. The ambulances are equipped with high-tech life saving measures, including traffic safety features. The unveiling will be at the South Walker location.
Councilwoman Johnson thanked the voters that came out in support of their Council candidates during the recent City Council Election. Voting enables council to know constituents are concerned with what they are doing. She welcomed the new councilman, Patrick J. Ryan.
Councilwoman Johnson was absent last week due to the fact the Oklahoma City Orchestra League recognized her as a “Notable Woman”. All “Ten Notable Women” participated in a fashion show. She thanked the Oklahoma City Orchestra League and Glenna Tannebaum, President of the Orchestra League, for choosing all of the “Ten Notable Women”, stating she was very honored to be in their company. It was an experience she will never forget.
Councilwoman Johnson thanked City Manager James Couch for the reports. She is deathly afraid of dogs. The Animal Welfare report reflected 2132 people were bitten by a loose animal. She encouraged residents to take note of this statistic and make sure their animals are secure.
Councilwoman Johnson commented on the Curfew Violations report, noting there had been a problem with teenagers staying out past curfew. She supports the enforcement of the curfew ordinance, especially with summer approaching.
Councilwoman Johnson wished Councilman Jerry Foshee a speedy recovery from his illness.
Councilman Ryan thanked the Mayor and Council for their warm welcome. He thanked City staff; stating he is very impressed by staff’s responsiveness and citizens should be proud to know they do an excellent job. Councilman Ryan also thanked constituents for voting during the recent elections.
Mayor Cornett commented on how useful the Animal Control Service Response report was. He requested Council consider examining Animal Welfare staffing levels during the budget process to ensure the department is being staffed appropriately.
Mayor Cornett also stated he appreciated the Curfew Violations report.
