    X. Items from Council.

Ms. Johnson said she attended the Edwards Community Club Christmas Party last night.  She said African-Americans as a result of the Veterans Readjustment Act of World War II built the Edwards Community.  She said the southern end of the original Edwards Community was placed on the Historical Register several years ago.  Ms. Johnson said discussions would begin soon about extending the historical designation north to 23rd Street.

Ms. Johnson said she and Councilman Bowman attended a meeting with the firefighters to discuss neighborhood issues yesterday.  She said the meeting was very productive and she thanked Fire Chief Alan Benson, Mike Anderson, Local 157 President, and the firefighters for participating and providing great input about the issues.

Ms. Johnson challenged all the Councilmembers to vote today on the motel/hotel tax issue.

Ms. Simank said she attended the Third Annual Hispanic Christmas Dinner and Gala held at the Marriott on Northwest Expressway.  She said the Grand Ballroom was full and it was a wonderful event.

Ms. Simank wished everyone Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

Mr. Foshee thanked Devon Energy and the other sponsors for the grand opening on the river over the weekend.  Mr. Foshee said he got to ride on a boat during the parade and was really impressed with all the work that went into decorating the boats.  He said there were 30,000 to 40,000 citizens in attendance.  He said he received many calls asking for the boat parade on the river to be an annual event.

Mr. Foshee thanked the citizens for supporting the MAPS Projects over the years.  He said without citizens willing to fund the MAPS Projects, none of them would have come to fruition.

Mr. McAtee thanked Fred Hall for the vision he shared in his presentation at the Chamber Induction last Thursday evening.  He wished all the citizens could have seen the presentation about moving Oklahoma City to a higher level.

Mr. McAtee thanked the Musgrave-Pennington Neighborhood for the fellowship they shared on Saturday.

Mr. McAtee encouraged Classic Corbin Park neighbors to attend their Christmas Social tonight at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church on Meridian.

Mr. McAtee said he attended the river dedication on Saturday night also and he thought it was a huge success.

Mr. Bowman said he recently attended holiday open houses at Putnam Heights and Brookhaven neighborhoods.  He said he planned to attend another tonight at the Cleveland neighborhood. He said these events are especially festive with lots of holiday spirit.

Mr. Bowman said he and Councilwoman Johnson met with two shifts of firefighters at Fire Station 18 yesterday.  Mr. Bowman thanked Councilwoman Johnson for complimenting public employees when opportunities arise.  He said the positive encouragement and thanks Ms. Johnson dispenses is very important to our public employees.

Mr. Marrs thanked Mike McAuliffe and his volunteer group for organizing the Riverfront Opening events on short notice.  He also thanked the Public Works employees, Parks and Recreation employees, the Police Department, and the Fire Department for providing wonderful services for this event. 

Mr. Foshee said he attended a Chili Supper last night at Kingswood neighborhood.  He said Kingswood is the neighborhood he lives in and he rarely attends their meetings because he is out attending other meetings in Ward Five.  Mr. Foshee promised to attend more of the Kingswood meetings in the future.

   XI. City Manager Reports.

Mr. Couch said the rains interfered with the work on the boat ramp and threatened to throw off the scheduled time-line.  He said the City workers were able to play catch up at the end and finished the project with two hours to spare.
