    X. Items from Council.

Mr. McAtee said he attended the Reaching Our City Banquet last Friday night where 200 volunteers were honored.  He said Jerry Appleby, Executive Director, and the volunteers do an outstanding job at Reaching Our City.

Mr. McAtee said Ward 2 Youth Councilor, Victoria Adigun, accompanied him to the Meridian Hills neighborhood meeting last Thursday evening.  He said it is great to have the youth councilors out meeting folks in the different neighborhoods and praised Victoria for giving her time.

Mr. Foshee said there is an issue coming before the Planning Commission on December 6, 2004.  He said the issue being considered pertains to a zoning request for a development around the South Lakes Park.  Mr. Foshee said his preference would be for the property in question to be zoned for residential.  He said he is committed to protecting the investment made to beautify South Lakes Park by discouraging industrial zoning in that immediate area.

Ms. Simank thanked John Dugan and the Planning Staff for work they’ve done to help with the revitalization of SW 44th Street.  She said SW 44th Street has gone down over the years and this is a concerted effort to stop the decline.  Ms. Simank said she is pleased about all the enhancements the Integris Medical Center has made at SW 44th and Western Avenue. 

Ms. Simank asked that special attention be given to the prostitution problem at SW 27th Street and Robinson Avenue.  She said the problem has been reported several times in the past but it continues to escalate.  Ms. Simank said she took Youth Councilor Debrielle Roseburr with her last week to observe the situation and they were shocked to see prostitution activity so close to a neighborhood park and an elementary school.

Mr. Couch said enhanced enforcement would be made in the SW 27th Street and Robinson Avenue area.

Ms. Johnson wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving.

Mayor Cornett said he presented the first Burbridge Foundation Character Award last Thursday at the Character First offices.  The Burbridge Foundation Character Award is an $11,000 cash award given to the teacher who best promotes good character and instills good character in students.  Mayor Cornett thanked the Character First organization for the wonderful work they do year round to promote good character.

   XI. City Manager Reports.

       A. November 2004 Sales and Use Tax Collections

Mr. Couch said the year-to-date sales tax collections are right on target.  He said there is $1.3 million increase over last year when both sales tax and use tax collections are combined.

  XII. Citizens to be Heard.

Margot Christal Murdock, City Rescue Mission, spoke on behalf of homeless people and also reported a sewer line leaking in high weeds at Douglas Avenue and West Main Street.
