    X. Items from Council.

Mr. Bowman asked if anyone has heard about a private company circulating a petition to have drinking water tested in the Taft-Cleveland neighborhood.  He said it seems the company circulating the petition might be using it as a “come-on” to sell windows.

Mr. Liebmann assured Oklahoma City citizens that our water ranks number four nationally for drinking water and we enjoy some of the finest-tasting water in the country. 

Marsha Slaughter, Water and Wastewater Utilities Director, said a copy of the annual water quality report would be included in the next water bill mailing.

Mr. McAtee thanked the Meridian Hills and Windsor Forest Neighborhood Associations for hosting him and his wife at recent meetings.  He said Meridian Hills has a picnic scheduled for this Sunday afternoon at Lion’s Park.  Mr. McAtee encouraged everyone to attend a spring outing this Saturday hosted by the Briarwood Neighborhood Association.

Mr. McAtee praised the Council Road Baptist Church, the Greenvale neighborhood and the “Reaching Our City” group for a neighborhood picnic event last Saturday.  He said it is encouraging to see churches and groups come together for the good of the community.

Ms. Simank said this Friday, June 4th, the Weed and Seed District in the Rockwood Neighborhood is having a Safe Night.  She said Safe Night would be held on SW 29th Street just west of Independence Avenue.  Ms. Simank said hot dogs, popcorn, games and family activities will be provided for the attendees.

Ms. Simank said the Women’s Softball World Series had a good attendance over the weekend.  She said Councilman Rinehart threw out a couple of pitches.

Mr. Liebmann said Martin Nature Park is hosting a Wildflower Walk on June 5th from 2:00-3:30 p.m.  He encouraged everyone to attend and enjoy the vegetation and wildlife.

Mr. Liebmann said The City is offering free fishing clinics all summer long.  He said one could call the fish hatchery at 755-4014 to sign up.  The City lakes will be celebrating National Fishing Week on June 5-6 and no state or city fishing permits will be required for those two days.

Mr. Liebmann asked if a Resolution of Commendation could be drafted for Officer David Wilson for his act of heroism.  He said Officer Wilson pulled a man out of a burning vehicle in a recent highway accident.

Mr. Liebmann encouraged everyone to check out the many painted buffaloes around The City.  He said his wife, Judy, painted the one located by the Mickey Mantle statue near The Ballpark.

Mr. Liebmann asked if The City could find a way to help City employees soon to be without a doctor due to an impasse between Pacific Care and the Oklahoma City Clinic.  He said there are 200 City employees and 600-800 dependents of City employees affected by this situation.

Mayor Cornett said the Women’s Softball World Series held this past weekend at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium was a success.  He said the ESPN coverage and comments about Oklahoma City was favorable.  He said a bond issue allows us to maintain that facility and this keeps Oklahoma City in a good position for continued hosting of the series.

Mayor Cornett said the NCAA Baseball Regional is scheduled at The Brick this weekend.  He said the RedHawks have home games Saturday and Sunday evening and the NCAA Regional will be playing during the daytime.

Ms. Simank mentioned the “Cardiac Cowboys” Oklahoma State baseball team played 13 innings to beat Missouri.  She said it was a very exciting game.

Omega Robinson, 218 NE 14th Street, spoke about health insurance issues for Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority employees.
