Ms. Johnson said Marc Morial, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Urban League, is in Oklahoma City today to commemorate the 25th Annual Equal Opportunity Day and to honor Valerie Thompson, Oklahoma City’s Urban League Director.
Ms. Simank requested a briefing about a situation involving a utility light pole at NW 16th Street, which has a wire hanging across private property.
Ms. Simank said a traffic control box has been placed on a median where the Miller Neighborhood Association had already placed a sign identifying the area known as Legacy Corner. She asked if something could be done about the placement of the traffic control box, which is obstructing the Legacy Corner sign. Mr. Paul Brum, Public Works Director, said he would meet with residents to find better placement for the traffic control box.
Ms. Simank said there is a town hall meeting scheduled for Turning Point Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. She said Turning Point is a volunteer organization working with United Way and other community leaders to address medical needs in the community. She said normally City Hall doors are locked at 5:30 p.m., but Thursday evening the north and south doors will remain open until 7:00 p.m. and the east and west doors will be unlocked as well. She said anyone arriving after 7:00 p.m. may not be able to enter City Hall.

Mr. Foshee said he spoke at Southeast High School during a recent bonfire celebration for their football team. He said Southeast High School was his alma mater and he has great pride for the students currently attending the school. Mr. Foshee thanked the Fire Department for keeping the bonfire activities safe.
Mr. Foshee said he and Bentley Hedges played host to the National Director for the FAA and spent time discussing the issue of bundling contracts for travel and the negative impact it has on small travel agencies. He said the FAA is mandated to use a nationwide travel agency to book travel as a result of bundling contracts together, even if it is at a higher cost to the taxpayers. The FAA National Director promised she would look into the issue.
Mr. Foshee said he found the recent City Manager Report about the Development Center customer survey very interesting. He said 88% of the commercial respondents and 97% of the residential respondents were satisfied with the service they received from the permit and inspection divisions. Mr. Foshee was surprised to learn that many developers chose not to respond to the survey.
Mr. Couch said the Public Works staff meets with developers on a quarterly basis to discuss concerns. He said he gets complaints from time to time about the Development Center. Mr. Couch says the majority of complaints comes from developers who don’t do regular development work with The City and the complaints primarily result from lack of knowledge about processes. He said The City is continuing to make improvements on the process and the recent development fee increase will support some of those improvements.
Mr. Foshee wished his mother a speedy recovery from surgery.
Mr. Rinehart thanked his fellow Councilmembers, the Water Trust, and the City Manager for supporting the Draper Lake project.
Mr. Rinehart said the Republican Primary election is today in south Oklahoma City for the Senate race in District #44.
Mr. McAtee encouraged residents to attend the Windsor Hills Patrol Banquet tonight at the Sportsman Club. He said Sergeant Epperle and Major Scully, from the Oklahoma City Police Department, would be in attendance. He said the Meridian Hills Neighborhood Association is also meeting tonight. Mr. McAtee said the Windsor Forest Neighborhood Association meets this Thursday night.

Mr. McAtee said there is a Reaching Our City Open House tonight from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Reaching Our City is a non-profit organization working to improve the quality of life on NW 10th Street.
Mr. McAtee attended a service honoring veterans on Sunday, November 9th, at the Windsor Hills Baptist Church. Mr. McAtee said he had the honor of meeting two winners of the Congressional Medal of Honor. He said we should all recognize that the freedoms we enjoy are directly tied to the past sacrifice of our soldiers.
Mr. Bowman referred to recent Daily Oklahoman articles about gas drive offs. He asked if The City could address the issue of people driving off from convenience stores without paying for gasoline they pumped into their vehicles.
Mr. Bowman commended the Hazardous Waste facility located at SW 15th and Portland Avenue. He says he gives high marks to this facility and encourages citizens to give it a try. He recommended doing a “spring cleaning” promotion by featuring the facility in the City newsletter, which goes out with the water bills.

Mr. Miller appeared and discussed police patrols at Woodson Park and police treatment of people with disabilities. Mr. Miller was referred to Police Chief Citty.
Ray Whalen, 1108 Glade Avenue, Apartment 118, regarding recycling in multi-family dwellings.
Mr. Whalen appeared and discussed recycling in apartment buildings. Council suggested that Royal Oaks, Mr. Whalen’s apartment complex, become a pilot project for recycling.
