Mr. Liebmann said EMSA would meet tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Stroud, Oklahoma.

Mr. Foshee said he attended motorcycle rallies in Oklahoma City this weekend. He said he went to the rally at Harley-Davidson World on Agnew and to the Bricktown Bike Bash. He said both rallies were very well attended.

Mr. Foshee asked that a letter be sent to the Department of Transportation requesting barriers be placed in the median on I-44 south of the river. He said recently there was a terrible accident at SW 119th and I-44, which might have been averted with barriers in place.

Mr. Foshee said his daughter was in town for a surprise birthday party for her 30th birthday. He said his son-in-law is going to be a fighter pilot instructor stationed in Enid so they are moving back to Oklahoma.

Mr. Rinehart requested a status report on Southgate. He said there were several contingencies to be met by September 1st and he wanted to be brought up-to-date on the progress.

Mr. Rinehart thanked Tinker Air Force Base for donating two surplus jet engines to Metro Tech’s Aviation Mechanic Program. Mr. Rinehart said he and Debi Martin worked with General Burpee for the last year to complete this project. He thanked Debi Martin, Executive Assistant to the City Council, for seeing this project to completion.

Mr. Rinehart thanked General Burpee for his work with the Chamber, and Dennis Wallace and Tom Hall from the State Surplus Office, for handling the transportation of these three-ton engines. He also thanked Tom Jaworski, from the Central Purchasing Office; Sherill Riley, Ed Able, Sam Malone, Michael Burch, Vince Howry, and Al Rich at Tinker for their assistance with this project.

Ms. Johnson attended a Character First workshop last weekend that was presented for the new Youth Councilors. She said Councilman McAtee did a wonderful job of delivering the workshop to the attendees and she thought the subject matter was superb.

Mr. McAtee said it was a privilege to work with the Youth Council all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the retreat workshop. He said also attending were Councilman Bowman, Councilwoman Johnson, Mayor Humphreys and City Manager Couch.

Mr. McAtee thanked the Retired Firefighters for the event they hosted this week. He mentioned Councilman Cornett and his wife were in attendance and were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mr. McAtee congratulated the OU Med Center for sponsoring the Corporate Challenge this weekend. The Corporate Challenge is an Olympic-type competition and was held at McGuiness High School. He said the Police Department had a team represented in the Corporate Challenge and he was very impressed with their performance.

Mr. Bowman asked the Municipal Counselor if the Traffic Commission had a procedure for notifying citizens about traffic commission applications as is done with planning commission applications. He said it sounded like the neighbors involved in the No Parking signs issue earlier today were not aware of the Traffic Commission meeting.

Mr. Burkett said the Traffic Commission has meetings and gives notice about the meetings.

Mr. Bowman thanked Debi Martin and everyone involved with coordinating the workshop for the Youth Councilors. He said he was impressed with the insightful questions posed by the Youth Councilors and was surprised that they would be so interested in issues such as zoning, etc.

Mr. Cornett reminded citizens that school is starting and asked them to pay careful attention to speed limit signs.

Vice Mayor Johnson said she attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the INAFA Corporation in Mayor Humphreys’ absence. She said INAFA has opened a plant on I35, which assembles moon roofs for SUVs. Vice Mayor Johnson said the plant currently has 15 employees, but plans to expand to 50.

Vice Mayor Johnson said she had the privilege of meeting Mark Boulware who is the United States Counsel General to Rio de Janeiro. She learned that Mark Boulware is a native Oklahoman from Muskogee. Vice Mayor Johnson said she is excited about building this relationship with our Sister City - Rio de Janeiro.

Vice Mayor Johnson attended a flag raising ceremony at the Langston University Oklahoma City campus yesterday. She congratulated Dr. Halloway for opening campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Vice Mayor Johnson said about 10,000 people participated in Family Fun Night. She said the Police Department did a marvelous job with security and everyone had a good time.

Vice Mayor Johnson complimented the Lyric Theatre for bringing the "Smokey Joe’s Café" production to Oklahoma City. She said it was one of the best shows she has ever seen.

Vice Mayor Johnson thanked Lisa Hogue and Andrew Dechert for the tremendous amount of work they did coordinating the life skills part of the First Tee Program.

 

XI. Citizens to be Heard.

Leroy Richardson, 3601 North Maxwell, from the Golf Commission spoke about the mention made of Oklahoma City in the book, "The Chosen One" written by Dave Owen.

Mr. Bowman requested the General Obligation Bond Program Status Report be changed to reflect the 2000 Census ward boundaries.
