Mr. Cornett said even though his father passed away in 1997, he recently received a diploma for his graduating from high school. Mr. Cornett explained how the Oklahoma City Public School System has a new program where those who dropped out of high school to serve in World War II are being awarded diplomas all these years later. His father's diploma is dated 1942, but is signed by Cliff Hudson and the current members of the School Board.

Mayor Humphreys said he knew Mick's father, Carroll Cornett, and he is credited for building the gymnasium, basketball and wrestling program at Satellite Athletic. He was a wonderful man who ran the gym and who volunteered there daily for forty years.

IX.

Mr. McAtee thanked the Oklahoma City Blazers for the hospitality they showed his family Saturday night at Mayor and Council Night. Oklahoma City can be proud that the Blazers are one of the few hockey teams in the country who are actually showing a profit. There were over 10,000 people attending the game that night. Mr. McAtee congratulated Mick Cornett for making $100 for a charity when he scored a goal during one intermission at the hockey game Saturday night.

Mr. Rinehart asked if the City could review a potential traffic problem that might be in the making at the Pole Road exit off I-240. With construction beginning soon at I-35 and I-240 and scheduled to take 16-18 months to complete, the access to Crossroads Mall will be limited. Pole Road exit will be used as an alternate route to the mall but there is a stop sign at the end of the off-ramp that might cause a backup on the freeway.

Mr. Rinehart also asked if the City could check with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to be sure they have plans to display the appropriate signage announcing the alternate route to Crossroads Mall so congestion and confusion can be minimized.

Mr. Foshee commended Mayor Humphreys for attending the Rally for America yesterday. Mr. Foshee supports the United States troops and the President and he said the very same comments being made now by war protesters were made about Adolph Hitler. The comments he referred to were: "He's not hurting us, it's a continent away...and we should strive to appease him or strive for peace".

Mr. Foshee said Saddam Hussein is a man who has gassed his own people and committed numerous war crimes in Kuwait. Mayor Humphreys said the Viet Nam war was fought to stop Communism and was very divisive to our country. He said we should remember that eighteen months ago our country was attacked and thousands of people died. The terrorists intend nothing but ill for our country.
