Councilman McAtee
DEFERRED TO JANUARY 7, 2003. FINANCE DEPARTMENT.
Mr. McAtee wished everyone a Happy New Year and encouraged everyone to come downtown tonight to enjoy Opening Night. He reminded everyone that Opening Night is a great time for families and individuals to celebrate the new year together.
Mr. Foshee wished everyone a Happy New Year.
Mr. Foshee attended a Blazers hockey game recently. His daughter sang the national anthem before the game. Mr. Foshee's son-in-law, a C17 pilot serving in Operation: Enduring Freedom, was also recognized at the hockey game. Mr. Foshee said the next time his daughter comes to Oklahoma City, he would ask her to come and sing "The Star Spangled Banner" for the City Council. His daughter sang for the Oklahoma Opera and has done summer stock in New York where she teaches public school.
X.
Mr. Foshee reminded everyone who may be drinking alcohol during the New Year celebration to have a designated driver or take a cab.
Ms. Simank offered her sincere condolences to Councilwoman Johnson and her family over the recent death of Ms. Johnson's mother.
Ms. Simank wished everyone a very safe and Happy New Year, and invited them to come downtown tonight to enjoy the great celebration.
Mr. Liebmann thanked Vice Mayor Rinehart for doing a great job in Mayor Humphreys' absence.
Mr. Liebmann told Mr. McAtee he has two approved but unfunded traffic lights in his ward and citizens call him about it regularly. Mr. Liebmann stated he was fortunate that his ward didn't have these "gentlemen's" clubs like Mr. McAtee's ward does. Mr. Liebmann understands the need for regulating these sexually oriented businesses but feels that Ward 8 citizens are more concerned about the traffic lights because that is what affects them on a daily basis.
Mr. Liebmann has informed the citizens in his ward that the budget is tight this year. Mr. Liebmann reported our nation had the worst shopping in ten years. The figures for Oklahoma City's shopping year are not available yet but should be soon.
Mr. Liebmann sent his best to Ms. Johnson and expressed his sorrow in hearing about her mother.
Mr. Liebmann congratulated Ann Felton at Habitat for Humanity for building forty homes this year. He said they plan to build another forty homes in 2003.
Mr. Liebmann said one of his proudest accomplishments was the resolution to put up a barrier on the Lake Hefner Parkway to prevent head-on collisions. Six lives per year have been lost in the past but since the barrier has been erected, there have been no fatalities in the last 18 months. That means nine lives have been saved.
Mr. Liebmann wished everyone a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2003.
XI. Citizens to be Heard.
Mr. Dennis Box, 522 Colcord Drive, appeared regarding Southgate Treatment Center.
