Choosing the right pet
Animal Welfare

Things to consider when selecting a pet.

A dog or a cat? Dogs and cats have very different personalities and temperaments. Cats are more independent than dogs but also need the same active care.

What breed? Every breed has its own characteristics. For instance, you may prefer a pet with short hair. Learn about the behavior and physical characteristics of the breed you're considering.

Do you have enough room? Large dogs generally don't do well in small apartments or places without a backyard. Select a pet that "fits" your home.

Does your lifestyle accommodate a pet? While owning a pet is a lot of fun, it is also a responsibility that lasts many years. Be sure you can provide proper care before adopting a pet.

If you need help selecting the right type of pet, have questions or want more information, talk to your veterinarian or an Animal Welfare Adoption Specialist.
