Community Beautification
Parks & Recreation

The Parks & Recreation Department works regularly with neighborhood and other community groups who offer their volunteer time and services to keep our parks looking green and beautiful.

Adopt-A-Park
Created in 1981, the Adopt-A-Park program is a citywide volunteer program that enables individuals, neighborhood associations, civic groups, and businesses to assist in the general care and maintenance of parks and other green spaces in Oklahoma City.A volunteer works to beautify a park

Adoptions may involve twice monthly litter control, supplemental mowing, flower bed planting and maintenance, or minor landscape improvements and year-round care. Participants are recognized, if they wish, with attractive signs. Every year, adopted sites are evaluated and awards are given to the adopters with the highest scoring areas. Currently, approximately 100 areas are adopted with over 900 volunteers participating in the program.

We work closely with Oklahoma City Beautiful, Inc.
(a non-profit organization) to enhance the appearance of City parks and street medians.

Visit the Oklahoma City Beautiful website External Site to get more information or sign up.

Community Beautification Watering Program
The Community Beautification Watering Program began in 2012 to assist neighborhood associations by providing water for beautification projects. The purpose of the program is to improve the quality of planting beds and new trees in City parks and street medians by assisting volunteer neighborhood associations who want to care for these landscaped areas in their neighborhoods.

Qualified Neighborhood Associations may apply to the City to receive up to $1,000 in annual water credit to be used toward watering planting beds and/or newly planted trees in neighborhood parks or medians. Neighborhood Associations may also apply for installation of water meters, backflow preventers and hydrants.

The program is only open to incorporated voluntary neighborhood associations that are listed with Oklahoma City Neighborhood Alliance. The credits pay only for water, and not any infrastructure or installation costs associated with the watering project. Neighborhood entrances or street rights-of-way are not eligible under this program.

Interested neighborhood groups may call the Parks and Recreation Business Office at 297-3882 for more information, or download this FAQ page, which provides details on the program. An application form can also be downloaded HERE.

Landscape Improvement and Maintenance Agreements
For organizations, individuals or companies that wish to make beautification improvements on City parks or medians that require construction and/or on-going maintenance, the Parks & Recreation Department offers Landscape Improvement and Maintenance Agreements.  The agreements outline the responsibilities of the requesting organization and permit the organization to make improvements and maintain them for a specified period of time. This is the ideal program for active neighborhood associations or community groups that want to make a significant impact in their neighborhood. Call the Parks Department Business Office at 297-3848 for more information, or email wes.gray@okc.gov

Qualified neighborhood associations who have a Landscape Improvement Agreement may also apply for water credit grants through the City’s Community Beautification Watering Program.
