Some businesses in Oklahoma City are required by City code to obtain a
license to operate.
Ordinances relating to license requirements are created to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public and the integrity of our neighborhoods. Many licenses require statements of compliance by other departments or agencies.
For example, if you are a new owner of a business, zoning approval may be required for your business type to ensure your location meets zoning requirements. If you sell anything consumable a City County Health inspection will also be required and proof of compliance must be provided prior to license issuance.
If your occupation or business requires a State or County license, proof of a valid license by the appropriate agency must also be provided to the City before we will issue you a City license. All licenses issued by the City expire one year from date of issuance. Licenses and permits issued are non transferable except when specifically authorized by ordinance or State law.

It is your responsibility, before engaging in any new business in the City of Oklahoma City, to obtain all necessary federal, state or local licenses or permits. You should contact the City’s Licensing Office regarding whether you must obtain a City license or permit.
